How to turn a score into a letter grade

First get the score as a percentage. Divide the points earned by the points possible, then multiply by 100.

Example: 43 out of 50 points. 43 ÷ 50 = 0.86, so that's 86%. On the chart, 86% is a B. Without pluses and minuses, it's also a B.

Not every school uses this scale

There's no single US grading scale. Some schools use a 7-point scale, where an A starts at 93% and a D at 70%.

Some colleges don't give an A+, or count it as 4.3 instead of 4.0. Always check your syllabus or school handbook for the exact cutoffs.
